Gouvia marina: New pontoon installation completed

Gouvia marina has become the biggest marina in Greece with the addition of approximately 275 berths. The capacity of the marina increased from 960 berths to 1235. The new floating pontoons were installed in two phases. The first phase had already been completed in autumn 2007 while the second phase in spring 2009. The new berths were essential to cover the increasing berthing needs of the marina since Gouvia has become perhaps the most attractive and popular berthing solution in Greece.

Earth Hour

On Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 8:30 pm, Gouvia, Lefkas, Zea and Kalamata marinas took part in Earth Hour—the world’s largest global climate change event by simply taking off for one hour all non essential lighting in the marina and encouraging all customers and shops in the marina to do the same.

Earth Hour is an event led by the World Wildlife Fund. In 2008, more than 50 million people in 370 cities around the world took part, as the lights dimmed at Sydney’s Opera House, Rome’s Coliseum, the Empire State Building and the Golden Gate Bridge. Even the Google homepage went dark for the day.

Biking the ocean. A journey from Zea marina in Athens to Amsterdam.

In May 2009, started from Zea marina in Athens, “Biking the ocean” a pedal boat where after 100 days and almost 4500 Km will reach Amsterdam. The sole aim of the journey is to raise money through sponsors for charitable purposes, specifically for Villa Pardoes in Kaatsheuvel. Villa Pardoes is a unique building with high-quality vacation units, especially for children who have a life-threatening illness. To run a place like Villa Pardoes is expensive and it is very much depended on donations. That's why the BTO Team will do everything to collect a considerable amount of money for Villa Pardoes, by asking for sponsorships for this project. Your support to the BTO Challenger project means automatically more money for Villa Pardoes.

The team for the whole crossing consists of Alex Mutsaars, Matthijs Houben and Mark de Vries who joined the team during the 1st stage in the Mediterranean Sea. The Pedal Boat is in fact an Ocean Boat with wheel drive. The 11 m. boat is equipped with sophisticated navigation systems (solar energy, wind generator, fresh water maker).

Zea and Lefkas marinas also became sponsors of the program offering free hospitality, lifting and launching as well as free repairs to the vessel for the whole time of its stay to the marinas.
